The Telangana police shot dead a software engineer here on Tuesday after he went berserk, attacking his parents and civilians with a sword, and assaulting policemen who tried to restrain him.

S. Balwinder Singh, 24, had a heated argument with his parents, S. Avatar Singh and Satwant Kaur over some family matter in their house at Sikhwadi. In a fit of rage, he picked up the sword and attacked them. Leaving them bleeding, Mr. Singh then rushed out of the house at Laxminagar and lunged at passers-by with the sword. He terrorised the locality as he ran amok, screaming and attacking people.
