Malavath Purna of Nizamabad and S. Anand Kumar of Khammam, who scaled Mount Everest, were accorded a grand welcome by the staff and members of the Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Educational Society.

Society Telangana president A. Sudhakar, vice-president Ch. Sadanandam, district president S. Pattabhi, general secretary M. Ravi, Warangal urban wing office bearers P. Kishan, B. Suresh, D. Suresh, S. Shoban Babu and Narsimhulu, K. Srinivas and O. Chakri of KU wing, G. Manasa and M. Pallavi of women’s wing, along with 3,000 members of the organisation, attended the event. SWAEROS, an umbrella body of students, staff and former students of social welfare hostels organised the programme.  Both Purna and Anand Kumar were students of Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Educational Society (APSWES).

Thirteen-year-old Purna, a student of class nine, created history on May 25, 2014, by scaling Mount Everest, along with 16-year-old Anand. Both are students of a school run by the Society. Purna and Anand were taken in a colourful procession from Telangana Keerthi Stupam opposite the Collector’s bungalow, up to the Kakatiya University Auditorium. Kakatiya University registrar M.V. Ranga Rao, KU college principal N. Ramaswamy and Superintendent of Police (Rural) Ambar Kishore Jha attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, they exhorted the students to take a cue from the achievements of Purna and Anand. “Both students have brought laurels to Telangana and made all Telugu people proud,” they said.
