Task force on urban mobility constituted

The government on Monday constituted a task force on urban mobility to study the monorail model in the IT corridor of the capital with the Principal Secretary Municipal Administration & Urban Development Arvind Kumar as the Member Convenor.

Adviser to Government G Vivek, Principal Secretary Information Technology & Communcations Jayesh Ranjan, Hyderabad Metro Rail MD N.V.S. Reddy, MD of Salarpuria Group, Chairman of Phoenix Group, Chairman of Meenakshi Group, Chairman of RMZ Corporation, CEO and MD LTMRHL and CEO & MD of Greenko Energies will be members.

The committee would suggest corridors for Phase II and phase III of metro rail project, best and most economical ways of transport including monorail, tram, e-vehicles and any other such rail or road connectivity on various routes in a synergetic manner.

The task force has been formed on the directions of Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao as he saw the need to integrate various modes of transportation such as metro rail, buses, monorail, MMTS, tram, e-vehicles and others keeping in view the present traffic density and traffic requirement for the next five decades.

The Outer Ring Road (ORR), National Highways/State Highways and satellite towns as well as the urban local bodies in a radius of 100 kms from the twin cities also need to be kept in view while integrating and synergizing various modes of transportation, he observed.

The task force would also look into and recommend to the government the various methods of funding such projects and raising resources including PPPs, joint ventures and annuity funding, according to orders issued by Mr. Arvind Kumar.
