Tainted ASI’s wife lands behind bars

ACB court sends her in remand

Wife of suspended ASI B. Mohan Reddy B. Latha was arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14 days by the ACB court in Karimnagar town on Saturday on the charges of encroachment of land belonging to other person.

The ACB sources said that a case was registered with ACB authorities under Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC Section 180 (b) read with 34 crime no 10/2017 lodged by Nagamalla Venkata Narsaiah against suspended cop, his brother-in-law Ittireddy Sripal Reddy, wife B. Latha and his supporter Pulagam Mallesham. The suspended cop and his brother-in-law were already arrested and lodged in Warangal jail.

Tainted cop’s wife Latha was evading police since then. However, the ACB authorities have arrested her in Hyderabad and produced before the ACB court on Saturday night where the court remanded her for 14 days judicial custody.

In a complaint, N. Venkata Narasaiah stated that he had purchased 275 yards land on the Peddapalli bypass road on the outskirts of Karimnagar town in 2012. However, some people were frequently visiting him and harassing him to repay the amounts owed by the previous owner of the plot. Mr. Narasaiah found that the person who had sold him the land had already left the town.

In order to avoid harassment, he approached the tainted ASI Mohan Reddy and sought his help. The suspended cop suggested the victim to register the land in his name or his supporter’s name so that there would not be any problem. Trusting Mohan Reddy, Mr. Narasaiah registered the land in the name of Pulagam Mallesham in 2012 and also paid ₹ 2.5 lakh for registration and other expenses. Later, the documents were changed to register the plot in the name of Mohan Reddy’s wife Latha.

In 2014, the tainted cop had started construction on the land and when the victim asked him to stop the work, he was threatened. After the ACB had arrested the suspended cop in April 2017, Mr. Narasaiah gained confidence and lodged a complaint. The ACB registered the case and arrested Mohan Reddy his brother-in-law Sripal Reddy and his supporter Mallesham, has turned approver. Mohan Reddy’s wife Latha was arrested on Saturday.
