: Student activists owing allegiance to the PDSU staged a dharna in front of the collectorate here on Thursday in protest against the alleged delay in implementation of mid-day meal scheme in government junior colleges in the district.

The protesters gathered at the Dharna Chowk and tried to force their way into the collectorate, to submit a representation to the district authorities.

Mild tension prevailed at the collectorate when the police foiled the attempt by the student activists to gain entry into the collectorate.

Addressing the protesters at the Dharna Chowk, the PDSU leaders alleged that there was no forward movement on the government’s assurance to provide mid-day meal to students of all government junior colleges. They sought immediate launch of mid-day meal scheme in all State-run junior colleges in the district.

They also demanded stringent action against the persons responsible for the alleged leakage of EAMCET-II question paper.

PDSU State general secretary Pradeep, vice-president Sagar, district president Akhil and others led the demonstration.
