Four students pursuing B.Tech (Mechanical) final year from the Regency Institute of Technology (RIT) here have developed a concept for making crude oil by using the used tyres of two-wheelers and four wheelers.

As part of their project work, P. Karthik, T. Sunil Kumar Gupta, S. Prudhvi Raj and P. Teja Varma burnt used tyres weighting about 1 kg at a temperature of above 200 degrees Celsius and made crude oil from the gases released in the process.

Pyrolysis

“This process is called as pyrolysis and the students are able to make 350 ml of crude oil from 1 kg of waste material,” says K. Ramana Murthy and G. Ravi Kumar, both associate professors and guides of the project. College principal K.V.S. Narayana congratulated the students on their achievement.
