If streams like the Peddavagu in Kumram Bheem Asifabad have no flow even in the second half of monsoon, it only shows that the rainfall in the season is highly deficient.

The stream which originates in Kerameri mandal comes in spate quickly as its catchment area lies mostly in the hilly region.

Another major stream which has seen good water flow only a couple of times during the season so far is the Kadem which originates in Bazarhatnoor mandal in Adilabad district.

The meagre inflows recorded at Kadem Dam actually show that there is deficit in rainfall in its catchment area.

Hill streams

Undivided Adilabad district, which encompassed the residual Adilabad and the newly carved Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Nirmal districts, is known for its hill streams which come alive only after one good rainfall. They not only initiate a host of livelihood activities, fishing being the chief among them, but fill reservoirs in a matter of days.

While Adilabad is placed slightly better at a deficit of 25% of its normal rainfall this far in the season, Nirmal, Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Mancherial have recorded a deficit of 37%, 38% and 39% respectively.

The deficit could spell disaster for Nirmal and Mancherial where paddy is the major crop and groundwater is used indiscriminately.
