An India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) is likely to be established at Kothagudem, the coal hub of Telangana, soon. According to official sources, the government is keen on setting up the IRBn in the coal town, considering its strategic location and proximity to the tribal heartland of Bhadrachalam. The battalion is expected to be raised on the lines of the Central paramilitary forces to carry out anti-extremist operations and rescue and relief activities during disasters, including natural calamities, sources added.
