A 15-year-old tribal girl, an SSC student of a Zilla Parishad school, allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze at her home at Ramachandrapuram in Tekulapalli mandal on Friday.

According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as E. Sandhya Rani of Ramachandrapuram tribal hamlet under Badru Thanda.

Sandhya, a Class X student of Kuntala Z P High School, allegedly ended her life by setting herself on fire at her home in the morning.

Her parents were away in the agriculture field when she allegedly took the drastic decision.

Sources said that Sandhya had been suffering from recurring stomach ache for the last couple of weeks.

She had reportedly abstained from the SSC second language examination held on Friday and eventually resorted to the extreme step, apparently due to health problems, sources added.

Tekulapalli police registered a case and are investigating.
