Rural youth has devised the system

Being outdoors and having your phone battery go dead can often be bothersome for many. But tourists thronging the scenic Pakhal lake here will no longer have to worry about that.

A solar-powered mobile phone charging booth was inaugurated at the lake by district forest officer K. Purushotham. The system has been devised by a rural youth, Mupparaju Raju, of Gopalpur in Duggondi mandal.

Mr. Raju said since mobile phones have become an essential part of everyday life, people go into panic mode when their phones run out of power.

The solar charger would be useful to tourists who pour into the lake from different places.

“This is equipped with different types of points to charge a variety of phones available in the market. One such unit has also been placed at the Warangal Rural Collectorate in Hanamkonda,” he said.

Each of the solar charging units costs ₹12,000.

Inventor Raju

Known among friends and family as ‘inventor Raju’, the youngster has come up with several innovations earlier too. His work on sensor-enabled street lights,, which turn on and off according to the natural light, are in use at several locations.

He had also come up with a light bulb which turns on and off automatically when a person enters or exits a room.

“To reduce the amount of electricity being used, more inventions which use solar power need to come out,” said Mr. Purushotam at the inauguration.

After learning about Raju’s ingenuity, Warangal Rural Collector M. Haritha got one of those solar-power phone charging units installed at the Collectorate a few months ago for the benefit of visitors.
