Mahashivaratri celebrations are being held on a grand religious note at Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanam at Vemulawada village in Karimnagar District from the wee hours of Tuesday.
There was heavy surge of pilgrims from various parts of Telangana and other neighbouring states for the Mahasivaratri festival at the shrine. Devotees formed serpentine queues for the darshan of the presiding deity after taking a holy dip in the holy tank (dharmagundam).
The priests from Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam (TTD) arrived at the Vemulawada shrine to offer silk vastrams as it is a tradition. Similarly, Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad presented silk vastrams on behalf of the State Government. Superintendent of Police V. Shiva Kumar along with his wife offered prayers at the temple shrine.
The Vemulawada temple is reverberating with the chants of “Om Namah Sivaya”, “hara hara mahadeva” etc. All the roads in the temple town were packed with the pilgrims occupying each and every inch of land space available.
Similarly, there was heavy pilgrims rush at Sri Kaleshwara Muktheeshwara Swamy Devasthanam in Kaleshwaram of Mahadevpur mandal along the banks of river Godavari adjoining Chhattisgarh State in the district. People were seen taking holy dip in the river before offering prayers.
