Farmers in Singoor are a happy lot with they being able to irrigate their land with water from Singoor canals. They shared the same with Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao during his visit on Wednesday.
“I had never thought of getting Singoor water to cultivate my land,” said Bhima Naiak, a farmer from Lalsingh tanda, while interacting with the Minister. He is one among several others who have benefited from Singoor water.
Addressing a gathering after inspecting Singoor canal work, Mr. Harish Rao said the TRS government materialised the dream of supplying Singoor water for irrigation. He said the government’s focus was on benefiting farmers and it was taking all steps in this regard.
“We have completed Singoor canal work at a cost of ₹62 crore. Water was supplied for irrigation from Singoor dam for the first time after Independence. Reverse migration has already begun and about 650 persons have transferred their ration cards from Hyderabad to Andol mandal,” said Mr. Harish Rao.
Stating that farmers had put in hard work to get bumper harvest this year, he said every grain of paddy would be purchased by the government.
The Minister said the government has been trying to increase the irrigated land under the Singoor project from 40,000 acres to 50,000 acres by filling 121 tanks by constructing canals at an estimated cost of ₹14 crore. He mentioned that about 72 tanks were filled this year.
