G. Chittibabu, 52, Sub-Inspector of Police at Dubbak police station, shot dead his wife, Saroja, 50, with his service revolver and later shot himself, on Friday.

While Saroja died on the spot, Chittibabu succumbed to bleeding injuries while undergoing treatment at Suraksha Hospital in Siddipet. The incident took place at the Dubbak police quarters and the reasons for the dastardly act was now known.

The victims are survived by a son and daughter.

According to V. Siva Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Siddipet, the SI, a native of Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, joined the department as Constable in 1984 and was promoted as SI in 2012.

He was working as Dubbak SI since November, 2015. Prior to his present posting, Chittibabu worked in Siddipet and Jharasangam police stations. He settled down in Bichkunda of Nizamabad district.

Corruption charges

Sources said he was facing several corruption charges; even an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation had been completed and departmental action was awaited. He was reportedly suspended earlier in 2004.

On Friday afternoon, Chittibabu shot dead his wife and later shot himself at around 1 p.m. He was immediately shifted to Suraksha Hospital for treatment where he died while undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, some Dalit organisations and relatives held a dharna before the police station at Dubbak alleging that harassment by higher officials led to the incident.
