Activists of the SFI town committee launched a 48-hour hunger strike here on Wednesday to press for immediate release of pending scholarships and fee reimbursement arrears. SFI State secretary Samba Siva inaugurated the hunger stir camp in front of the Collectorate office here.
Addressing the protesters, the SFI leaders alleged that 63,000 students of various colleges and institutions of higher education in the district were hit hard by the inordinate delay in disbursement of the pending scholarships and release of fee reimbursement arrears totaling over Rs. 200 crore pertaining to 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years.
They warned that any further delay in this regard would compel scores of students to discontinue their higher studies.
The SFI leaders demanded that the government immediately release the requisite funds to disburse the pending scholarships and fee reimbursement arrears forthwith.
