It was tough, but I wanted to achieve and I did,” said Jahnavi Sriperambuduru. A ninth standard student from Alwal, the teenager crossed one more milestone when she reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania of Africa on October 2 and thereby became the youngest girl in the world to do so

Accompanied by her father Krishna Rao, the girl started the expedition on September 27 and returned to the base camp on October 3. “I was tired and exhausted, but mustered the will power to reach the top,” she said, after her return.

Recalling her adventure, the teenager said that on the third day of the tough journey, it started snowing heavily and it looked like a snow storm was developing. “Visibility was zero, but the burning desire of accomplishing the task of Seven Summits mission drove me forward,” she recalled.

She took the toughest route — Machame — to scale the mountain even as some raised apprehensions about her safety. On the day of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, she reached the peak of Kilimanjaro, hoisted the Indian flag and also put the photo of the Father of the Nation there.

“I was glad to have achieved this on October 2,” said a thrilled Jahnavi and she is already busy planning for next mission of scaling another mountain in Australia which would be second of the Seven Summits mission. She would be flying to Australia next month. By the end of 2015, she hopes to scale all seven summits and make us all proud again.
