A 70-year-old man allegedly committed suicide after stabbing his wife at Toggudem village in Pinapaka mandal of Khammam District in the early hours of Monday.

Sources said Venkat Reddy, 70, a farmer, allegedly attacked his wife Padma with a knife after a spat with the latter over a simmering family feud in the early hours of the day.

Padma suffered multiple stab injuries in the attack. Venkat Reddy’s daughter reportedly sustained minor injuries on her hand when she tried to snatch away the knife from her infuriated father in a bid to save her mother.

Venkat Reddy allegedly ended his life by hanging himself from a tree near his house soon after the incident. Padma was shifted to a hospital in Bhadrachalam and her condition was stated to be critical.
