Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to explain personally to senior officers of Rural Water Supply and Irrigation Departments the successful implementation of Manair drinking water scheme in Siddipet constituency to inspire them on the proposed drinking water grid project.
Official sources said that Mr Rao will take them on an aerial survey of Lower Manair Dam and the Manair drinking water scheme being implemented in Siddipet town and 171 villages of Siddipet, Chinna Kodur and Naganur mandals on December 10. He will also hold a meeting with the engineers of the two departments at Komaticherla near Siddipet after the aerial survey.
All ministers and senior officers would attend the meeting to be addressed by the Chief Minister. It was not clear whether one or more choppers would be used for the aerial survey, the sources said.
Stating that the Chief Minister was personally supervising the progress of the drinking water grid project proposal, a senior officer said on Monday that survey work on six out of 26 sub-grids would be completed by December 15 and work on the rest would also be taken up at the earliest. Necessary infrastructure would be provided to the officials responsible for the six sub-grids as soon as their survey was completed.
The task of setting up either corporation or board for the water grid project was handed over to the ICRA Management and Consulting Services Ltd (IMaCS), Chennai.
The consultancy firm would suggest the State government as to which of the body would be more beneficial for mobilising funds for the water grid project, the sources said.
The drinking water grid project would also serve the industrial sector by providing water required for it and bulk water carrying pipelines of 5,227 km would be designed to carry water for both drinking and industrial needs. The government has already earmarked 10 per cent of water in every irrigation project to the two purposes and grid would be designed to utilise about 60 TMC ft water across Telangana excluding the GHMC area.
