Even as the threat of flood has subsided, the threat of seasonal diseases is looming large over Agency areas in Bhadrachalam division.

The sanitation situation has turned from bad to worse in several remote tribal habitats, particularly the riverside hamlets in Bhadrachalam division, in the aftermath of the recent flash floods in the Godavari.

Cases of viral fever continue to trickle in from tribal areas, including Venkatapuram, Dummugudem and Charla mandals, at various hospitals in the temple town.

Sources said that more than 340 malaria and 15 dengue cases have been reported in the district so far this year.

There has been a spurt in the cases of vector-borne diseases in Agency areas in the last couple of days, the sources added. More than seven cases of diarrhoea have been reported in Suraveedu village in Venkatapuram mandal in the last five days.

A 55-year-old woman of the same village, suffering from diarrhoea, died while being shifted to a hospital in Bhadrachalam four days ago, sources said. Over seven villagers have been undergoing treatment for diarrhoea at the special medical camp in Suraveedu.

A special medical camp is being organised to provide treatment for those suffering from symptoms of diarrhoea in Suraveedu, said Dr. Sravan, medical officer, Primary Health Centre, Edira, Venkatapuram mandal. All of them are stable and recovering quickly, he said.
