Having the way for increasing revenue generation by way of utilising surplus land, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) resolved that it would consider proposals to construct commercial complexes on its land.

Category ‘C’ lands in the Secunderabad Cantonment are vested with the board. The elected board members had proposed that vacant C-lands can be used for development of shopping malls and other commercial structures, which can help generate revenue. The board members had also resolved during Wednesday’s meeting that proposals would be sent to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to allow running a building penalisation and regularisation schemes (BPS and BRS).

The ward members had also suggested bringing clearances of building permissions under a single window clearance system besides resolving to send a draft of new building laws for Secunderabad Cantonment to the ministry.

At the start of the meeting, ward member 5, J. Ramakrishna sat blindfolded to protest the alleged tampering of minutes of the last board meeting.

It was only after assurances were given that minutes would be recorded immediately after the meeting, that the member relented.

The contested issue of GLR 243, expansive land measuring 119 acres near MCEME in Trimulgherry, cropped up again as an application to sub-divide some of the plots on the land was included in Wednesday’s meeting agenda.

The title of the land is being contested, with the State Government claiming the land as its own. SCB had in the past issued layout and building permits on the land. A few months ago, the Hyderabad District Collector had asked the SCB to cancel the permits issued.

While elected board members argued for passing a resolution in favour of the applicant for sub-division, stating that the Collector’s orders were not binding on the board, the Army representatives of the board favoured reserving any order as the title is under dispute. The board resolved to seek legal counsel in the matter and discuss it during the next board meeting.
