Information Technology behemoth Microsoft’s chief executive officer Satya Nadella and five senior members of his team called on Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at his camp office here on Sunday as part of his India tour.
The Hyderabad-born Mr. Nadella, son of retired IAS officer N. Yugandhar, is visiting the city for the first time after his elevation to the post in the IT giant in February last. He is in India to attend two events of NASSCOM at New Delhi on Tuesday.
KCR offers supportMr. Nadella reportedly touched upon the expansion plans of Microsoft in Hyderabad at his meeting with the Chief Minister that lasted over half an hour. Mr. Rao offered to support the company’s plans. IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao, Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister S. Narsing Rao were present, sources said.
The details of the meeting were kept out of bounds for the media though the government disclosed every small initiative taken on corporate matters in the past. It was stated that Mr. Nadella was actually supposed to meet Mr. Rao on Monday but he expressed a desire to meet the latter on Sunday itself. Mr. Rao was said to be in a marathon meeting with senior government officials at Hitex when Mr. Nadella drove down.
Talks to NaiduSources added that Mr. Nadella had a telephonic talk with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu who has invited Microsoft to set up a R&D in the State. Microsoft already has a R&D unit – Microsoft India Development Centre -- at Nanakramguda here which is the largest such facility outside the company headquarters at Redmond in the US. He will meet the employees of the centre on Monday.
