Satavahana University to remain closed indefinitely

March 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - KARIMNAGAR:

Satavahana University, on the outskirts of Karimnagar town, declared the closure of all colleges and hostels on the university campus from Saturday onwards.

A couple of days earlier, the students had attacked Laxmiprasad, Head of the Department of English, on Thursday, alleging that he had given them less marks in the internal examinations.

Students suspended

Following the complaint given by the faculty member, the Karimnagar rural police also registered criminal cases against the students. University authorities suspended the students on the charge of physically attacking the faculty member.

Following the inclusion of his name in the suspension list, a student had also made a vain bid to commit suicide on Friday evening.

Sensing further trouble in the university, the authorities announced the closure of all colleges and hostels from Saturday after the breakfast session.

The university authorities said that they would announce the opening of the colleges and hostels only after a few days when the situation comes under control.

It may be recalled that this is the second time this academic year that the university has announced the closure of hostels following protests by hostel students.
