Sand lorries to briefly stay off Bhupalpally roads

‘Temporary suspension in view of surge in road accidents’

February 21, 2018 12:05 am | Updated 12:05 am IST - BHUPALPALLY DT.

Plying of sand lorries has been temporarily suspended in the district, said district collector R.V. Karnan on Tuesday, adding that sand transportation would be permitted only in restricted hours after the prohibitory orders are lifted.

Holding a review meeting with the police, officials of RTC, mines and other departments, he said road accidents have increased in the district due to the movement of numerous vehicles in connection with “heavy mining”.

The Collector also emphasised that sand lorries should be diverted via Peddapalli to ease the traffic congestion and prevent road accidents.

Mr. Karnan has asked that three check posts be set up so that incidents of drunken driving, driving without license, fitment of vehicles, etc. can be monitored.

The roads should be properly marked and more speed breakers should be created, he opined, urging officials to create awareness among the employees of private hospitals as well as doctors to admit victims of road accidents without hassle and offer first aid as per Supreme Court’s orders.

Superintendent of Police R. Bhaskaran, joint collector D. Amoy Kumar, ITDA project officer Chakradhar Rao, RDO Veera Brahma Chary and RTO Ravinder were present.
