Safilguda lake has highest level of lead

Study showed that the highest level of lead was found in Safilguda lake - 158 micrograms per litre, while Hussainsagar, Kapra, Babanagar and Nacharam lakes showed a reading of 89.5, 86.4, 53.6 and 65.1 micrograms per litre of lead, respectively. Groundwater near Safilguda lake only was above the WHO limit at 89.8 micrograms per litre.

The study, began a year-and-a-half ago, will be completed in the coming months.

Other faculty from the chemistry department who are part of the study are M. Karuna and Archana Juyal, while the student-centric research programme was initiated with a grant from the UGC.
