The rythu sadassu held under the banner of All India Kisan Mazdoor Sangh, here on Tuesday, demanded revoking of the decision to divert Singur water through NSP and SRSP to Mid Manair in Karimnagar describing the move to be against the interests of farmers of erstwhile undivided district.

Addressing the meeting attended by all political parties, AIKMS State leader Akula Papaiah said only the people of Nizamabad, Kamareddy and Medak had right over the Singur waters. Singur was built as a balancing reservoir bowing to the pressure of agitations by farmers, he said.

Mr. Papaiah alleged that the Government’s move would create differences and clashes between the farmers of the district and Karimnagar. He warned that farmers and members of all parties would intensify agitation if the decision was not withdrawn.

Bharatiya Kisan Sangh national leader K. Sai Reddy said that the Nizam Sagar Project ayacut had shrunk from 2.75 lakh acres to just over one lakh acres with the silt in reservoir and diversion of water for drinking water purposes. Meanwhile, APCLC leader Movva Nageswar said that farmers would not keep silent watching the diversion of water at the expense of their interests.

Peasant leaders Siripur Ganga Reddy and Appi Reddy appealed to the MPs and the MLAs to act immediately to prevail upon the Government to stop giving water to Midmanair and made it clear that the Singur water belongs to erstwhile undivided Nizamabad district region forever.

They wanted Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy to take initiative to reserve the water for the farmers of Nizamabad and Kamareddy.

The AIKMS division president Nayakwadi Narsaiah presided over the meeting. Congress Banswada in-charge K. Balraj, CPI (ML)-New Democracy leader V. Bhumaiah, Konda Asanna and Salla Gangadhar also spoke.
