In a move that will go a long way in easing traffic congestion in the Mahabubabad town, the Ministry of Railways has sanctioned Rs.58.45 crore for the construction of another road over-bridges (RoB) across the railway level crossings at Signal Colony said MP A. Sithram Naik and MLA Bonoth Shankar Naik.
They said the State government would contribute Rs. 40.95 crore and railways shares Rs 17.50 crore. “Funds have been allocated and the work will commence soon, they said. Many banks and colleges are located on the eastern side of the town and western side many residential colonies have come up. The railway gate is closed for over six hours a day as at least 50 to 60 trains, including goods trains, cross the town everyday.
Sometimes, it takes an hour-and-a-half to get to the other side. Mahabubabad is one of the growing towns in the district and is located centrally to Warangal and Khammam districts with good rail and road network.
The town currently, according to an estimate, has about one lakh population and has been witnessing large-scale migration from surrounding tribal hamlets and Yellandu and Kothagudem in neighbouring Khammam district.
According to Gurunadha Rao, a teacher who is documenting the local history, the town has witnessed lot of migration from the surrounding villages for want of livelihood as farming is proving unviable.
People from Yellandu and Kothagudem too are coming to Mahabubabad town as the coal reserves there are getting exhausted.
According to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the town is a haven for realtors as it is centrally located between Warangal and Khammam and is well-connected by rail and road network, people hope that mining of iron ore at Bayyaram in Khammam district (11 km from Mahabubabad ) will be entrusted to Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and the extracted ore to whichever company comes forward to set up a steel factory.
Mr. Gurunadha Rao pointed out that there were no higher educational institutions in Mahabubabad though there was a population of more than one lakh. Therefore, he urged the public representatives and government to take steps to set up engineering, post-graduation science college and polytechnic colleges.
“We also demand for a reservoir which will be a permanent source of water supply,” Mr. Gurunadha Rao said.
