The State government has allocated Rs. 104 crore to the district for development of Panchayat Raj roads with a view to improve rural road connectivity, said G Kavitha, Chairperson, Zilla Parishad, Khammam.

Talking to media persons here on Thursday, she said an amount of Rs. 36 crore has been sanctioned to the district for taking up repairs to the damaged roads under Maintenance of Rural Roads (MRR) initiative.

Around 677-km length of roads, including the existing black top roads, will be developed in the rural areas in the district soon, she added.

The PR Department engineers have already submitted detailed proposals to the government on some new roads, the need-based road development and repair works in the district.

The State government has accorded paramount importance to the development of rural road infrastructure for enabling the rural masses, particularly those living in the remote tribal pockets, access the educational and health care services, she said.

The government is also determined to revive old tanks, particularly those constructed during the Kakatiya era, and expand the irrigation cover on a mission mode, she asserted.
