Two persons accused of raping a degree student in Hayathnagar on the city outskirts were arrested by the police and remanded in judicial custody after being produced before a local court here on Thursday.
The accused, Srinivas Reddy, 32, a welder and Linga Reddy, a mechanic, noticed that the victim was spending time with her friend, an engineering student, in a dilapidated room off Outer Ring Road. They went there and started clicking pictures with their mobile phone.
While the engineering student fled after being threatened, the two accused outraged the modesty of lonely woman, the Vansthalipuram ACP B. Bhaskar told mediapersons. Based on the description of the accused given by the victim, the police caught them. The accused and the victim hail from local Peddamberpet village. Police seized the mobile phone which was used to take photos of the victim. It was sent to forensic science laboratory to retrieve pictures for evidence against the accused.
Meanwhile, Progressive Organisation for Women president Sandhya condemned the sexual assault. She met the ACP and urged him to ensure the accused were convicted. The duo was lodged in Cherlapally central prison.
