On the occasion of May Day celebrations, Collector Neetu Prasad formally inaugurated a water kiosk for the benefit of construction workers at Tower Circle in Karimnagar on Friday.
On the occasion, the Collector said that the Telangana government is taking all measures for the welfare of workers in the unorganised sector. She said that the government had increased accidental insurance amount from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and in case of natural death from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 60,000, besides other benefits for workers enrolled under Building and Other Construction Workers Act and Welfare Board (BOCWWB).
Deputy Labour Commissioner A. Gandhi said that two water kiosks at Tower Circle and Labour Adda at Jyothinagar have been opened on the occasion of May Day.
He said that over 75,000 unorganised sector labourers have been enrolled in BOCWWB.
Masons, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, floor marble laying workers, brick kiln workers were enrolled under the BOCWWB by collecting a premium of Rs. 110 for five-year period. He said that the process of enrolment is still being continued in the district by educating construction workers.
Adilabad Special Correspondent writes: Trade unions of different hues celebrated the day in a grand manner in Adilabad on Friday by taking out rallies and conducting public meetings.
The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) and the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) were in the forefront of the celebrations as the latter organised a public meeting at the R&B guesthouse ground and the latter organised a blood donation camp at the RIMS auditorium.
The AITUC also organised a meeting in Mavala gram panchayat while the trade unions in RTC and of building workers took out rallies. Both the trade unions hoisted respective flags at different localities where their offices are situated.
Nizamabad Special Correspondent writes: Rallies, road side meetings and flag hoisting at different trade union offices marked the celebrations across the district. Huge rallies under the aegis of the Indian Federation of Trade Unions were taken out by workers here and in Kamareddy.
Meanwhile leaders of different Centrist and Left parties greeted workers on the occasion.
Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and TRS Karmika Vibhagam celebrated the occasion by unfurling red flags before the Municipal Corporation Office here. Forward Bloc leader Raju Goud hoisted red flag at his party office and expressed solidarity with labourers. Hamali associations celebrated the May Day at market yards and Ganj.
