The proposed overbridge at the railway level crossing No. 30 near the agricultural market yard will not be taken up now to avoid dislocation in the area. It is being proposed to be taken up at the railway level crossing No 29, a km away, subject to the approval by the Railway Board.

“Yes, a proposal for change of location has been sent to the Railway Board,” revealed Senior Divisional Engineer, South Central Railway, Nanded Division, G. Srinivasa Rao. “It will be a win-win situation for both Indian Railways and the State government if that happens,” he added.

Underbridges proposed

“We have proposed to construct two double vent railway underbridges within the same outlay besides the RoB if the location is moved to LC 29. There is some saving to be made by doing so which will be enough for construction of the RUB under the RoB at LC 29 and an RUB at LC 30,” he explained.

The change of location was necessitated by the fact that the approaches to the proposed RoB at LC 30 were not feasible owing to the dislocation it could cause to locals. This will not be the case with LC 29 where there is sufficient extent of open land available for the purpose.

Road widening

The collectorate road which will need to handle heavy vehicular traffic towards market yard after construction of the RoB at LC 29 will also need to be strengthened and widened. The RUBs at LC 29 and 30 will handle only light vehicle traffic.

The long pending demand for the RoB was conceded last year when the State government agreed to contribute its share of the funding for it. The total estimated cost of the structure would be ₹ 72 crore of which the State government needed to contribute ₹ 50 crore for construction of approaches outside the area owned by the Indian Railways.

Tenders completed

Meanwhile, work on the other four RUBs in near Adilabad would begin after the monsoon, according to the Senior Engineering official. “Tender process has been completed and all the four RUBs will be double vent,” he added.

While the RUBs at LC 26 near Khodad village, LC 35 near Guda-Rampur and LC 36 near Gimma in Jainad mandal will be new constructions, a vent will be added to the one existing at LC 31 near Ganesh temple on old NH 7. The height of the RUBs will be 3.6 metres.
