Minister for Irrigation T. Harish Rao said a large number of people were participating in works related to Mission Kakatiya.
Participating in restoration works of the Kisan Sagar at Kandi on Wednesday, Mr. Rao said Rs.43.16 crore had been donated for the works so far, which included the one-day wages of State government employees that amounted to Rs.32.18 crore. He said action would be initiated against contractors who had not commenced works even after the contract had been awarded.
Mr. Harish Rao said steps would be initiated to start 25 per cent of Mission Kakatiya works that were yet to begin. He announced sanctioning of Rs.50 lakh for the restoration of Kisan tank.
Mr. Harish Rao said the Police Department adopting water tanks was a good sign. “A tank is like a mother to the village. Different individuals, organisations and unions are coming forward to adopt tanks and take up restoration works. Farmers should use the silt removed from the tanks and fill it in farms. It will reduce the input cost of chemicals and pesticides,” he said. The Minister also congratulated Superintendent of Police B. Sumathi and others for adopting four tanks in the district. This would deter occupation of tanks.
Collector Rahul Bojja urged local residents to regularly supervise the ongoing tank works.
Ms. Sumathi said the police had been taking part in social activities in addition to maintaining law and order.
