The decision of the government to cancel EAMCET – 2 and the leakage of question paper invited protests from student bodies on Saturday.

Mild commotion prevailed in front of the collectorate on Saturday when ABVP activists tried to gatecrash into the premises demanding that the government sack Education Minister Kadiam Srihari and Health Minister C. Laxma Reddy over the Eamcet-II paper leakage and not to abolish the examination.

Several hundreds of activists arrived in a procession from Telangana Chowk and squatted in front of the Collectorate raising slogans and demanding the sacking of the Ministers. Sensing possible trouble, the police forces were deployed in large numbers. However, the ABVP activists broke the security cordon and tried to gatecrash into the premises.

But, the police foiled their attempts by resorting to lathi-charge and dispersed the mob. In the melee between the police and the ABVP activists, both the activists and police sustained injuries.

The police arrested the protesters and shifted them to the police station.

Protests in Hyderabad

Hyderabad Special Correspondent writes: Meanwhile in Hyderabad, Telugu Nadu Students’ Federation (TNSF) and All India Students’ Federation (AISF) staged separate protests demanding removal of Mr. Laxma Reddy and Mr. Kadiyam Srihari from the Cabinet for their failure to prevent question paper leakage.

Activists of the TNSF staged a silent protest in front of the B.R. Ambedkar statue on the Tank Bund and questioned the rationale of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in holding a review meeting with the two Ministers, who should be held responsible for the fiasco.

Speaking at the protest, Telangana unit president of the students’ body Ch. Madhusudhan Reddy requested Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to intervene in the issue and remove the two Ministers.

Meanwhile, the activists of AISF and All India Youth Federation burnt an ‘effigy’ of the State Government at Himayathnagar Y junction demanding removal of the two Ministers. Cancelling the test is proof of the government’s inability to check ills in the system, president of AISF M. Venu said at the protest.

Members of Osmania University Students’ Joint Action Committee burnt effigies of Mr. Laxma Reddy and Mr. Kadiyam Srihari in front of Arts College on the campus.
