March 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - KHAMMAM:

Mild tension prevailed at the Singareni Area Hospital in Kothagudem on Sunday when trade union activists staged a demonstration in front of the hospital demanding Rs. 25 lakh ex gratia to the kin of Harinath, the coal miner who was killed in a mishap inside the Venkateshkhani (VK7 incline) underground mine on Saturday night.

Sources said the activists owing allegiance to the AITUC and some other trade unions tried to stall the post-mortem on the body of Harinath, demanding adequate ex gratia and support to the bereaved family of the senior mining sardar. They also sought a job for one of the family members of the deceased miner in the company.

They called off the protest after the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) area officials concerned assured them that the matter would be brought to the notice of the higher authorities of the company.

They also ensured all possible help to the kin of the deceased miner.
