Scores of farmers and relatives of those who committed suicides staged a protest demonstration at the district collectorate here on Wednesday under the aegis of Human Rights Forum.

HRF state president S Jeevan Kumar, district general secretary Badavath Raju and OPDR state president M V Krishnaiah said as per the district crime records, a total of 140 farmers committed suicides this year alone. But only 15 cases were identified as eligible to receive monetary assistance as per the GM 421.

They said if the State government wanted to achieve ‘Bangaru Telangana’ it should extend financial assistance to all the families

of farmers who committed suicide. It should also initiate steps to prevent such occurrences in future, they opined.

The HRF leaders alleged that the three-member committee constituted at divisional level has not visited all the families. Despite several representations, the district administration did not focus on identifying the genuine cases.
