Probe continues into beggar’s death

May 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - NIZAMABAD:

Police continue to investigate into the alleged suspicious death of a beggar and small-time worker Shankar at Badapahad Dargah in Nizamabad district on February 10. They have so far interrogated about 50 persons in connection with the case, according to Bodhan Deputy SP Venkateswarlu.

A case was booked under Section 174 of IPC and as many as 21 persons belonging to Wakf Board, which runs the dargah, were questioned besides 15 locals. The relatives of Shankar were also being interrogated; he said and added that they were coming to the police station whenever they were summoned.

It may be recalled here that the 22-year-old youth was allegedly beaten up, tortured and killed by some unknown accused for his offence of stealing Rs.100 from a hotel cash draw. Subsequently, the accused reportedly threatened the victim’s mother and elder brother who were into begging at dargah to leave for their native place in Medak district.

The BJP launched an agitation on the issue and as part of it they staged dharna in front of the Varni police station yesterday demanding the suspension of the Sub-Inspector of Police for his suspicious role in the case.
