‘Scope for direct job creation limited, but they would be suitably engaged’

National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), which is setting up 4000 MW (4 x 1000MW) thermal power plant based on supercritical technology near Pudimadaka village in the de-notified area of SEZ developed by the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), on Tuesday said it was totally committed to local area development.

Stating that locals would be suitably deployed in various activities in the plant, the management said they were getting the marine ecology study done by IIT-Chennai.

The company issued a detailed statement after the AP Pollution Control Board announced that it would hold environmental public hearing on the project on August 12. NTPC has completed initial site studies. The feasibility report has been approved by the board of NTPC and various other studies related to the project are at different stages. The company is taking required mitigation measures as and when required.

Tenders for the main plant equipment have been floated and under various stages of evaluation. NTPC will strive to get the most advanced technology for best efficiency and least emissions with a view to lowering tariff and pollution risk.

“Duo automated technology, scope for direct job creation would be limited. Locals will be suitably deployed/engaged where ever possible as per requirement, suitability, and availability of requisite skills and in consultation with local administration and as per provisions of law of land,” the statement clarified.

NTPC, as a responsive corporate citizen, invests in socially relevant and need-based activities for the benefit of society around the plants. Even before environmental clearance, the NTPC, in consultation with the administration and stakeholders, has taken up a number of activities in education, schools, development of infrastructure like roads, sanitation, and drainage, and providing drinking water in schools and villages. Nearly Rs.165 lakh was deposited for taking up more than a dozen activities in the nearby villages last week. NTPC has engaged reputed vocational training institute to impart training for local youth, the statement said.
