Preparations begin for Medaram jatara

Collector reviews progress

As Medaram Sammakka Sarakka Jatara draws near, District Collector A. Murali directed officials to complete the work related to jatara by January 18 next.

At a meeting held with the officials at Medaram on Wednesday, the Collector reviewed the progress of the work and arrangements for the bi-annual jatara scheduled to take place from January 31 to February 3 next year. After the officials apprised him of the work executed so far, he asked them to expedite the same. He instructed them to earmark about 1,500 acres of land for parking vehicles.

“Balloons should be floated to enable devotees identify the landmarks at the jatara site, while alternative arrangements should be made in case of power cuts,” he told the officials.

In a first, temporary toilets would be made available for the devotees, while some would be built at several villages surrounding Medaram for which 18 locations have been identified. Their maintenance would be given to gram panchayats.

Later, Mr. Murali along with the officials of various departments inspected the hospital at Medaram and model toilets to be used by the devotees. It was decided that they would consult two more companies for providing model temporary toilets regarding which a meeting is scheduled to be held next Wednesday. Joint Collector D. Amoy Kumar, Sub-Collector P.V. Gautam, ITDA Project Officer V. Chakradhar Rao, District Forest Officer T. Ravi Kiran and chief planning officer D. Komaraiah and officials of various departments attended the meeting.
