Ramavath Bujii is nine months pregnant. She was at the Government Hospital at the district headquarters on Wednesday for Ultra Sound scanning that takes place on Thursday. The scanning is performed twice in a week – Mondays and Thursdays and she came to attend her turn on Thursday.

She was one among the many poor women who could not afford to pay Rs.600 at any private hospital for scanning.

Bairi Santosh is another woman in her seventh month of pregnancy from Badrigudem. She came to Sangareddy to reserve her place and waited at door of the Out Patient ward gate.

The OP consultation begins at 8.30 a.m. every day at the hospital and on Monday and Wednesday about 30 tokens are issued for ultra sound scanning. They were not lucky enough to get the tokens in their last visit and turned up again on Wednesday and they were furious over the improper way of handling of the pregnant women at the Government Hospital. They urged the media not to write about them fearing that it would adversely impact their treatment the next day by the hospital staff.

“We are making huge claims that we are doing things in a great manner, but the cases of Bujji and Santoshi exhibits the loopholes in the system,” said an officer in the medical department on condition of anonymity.
