A four-month pregnant woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her house in Tallagadda here on Sunday. The police registered a dowry death case on Monday after the victim’s parents alleged that the unnatural death was due to harassment.

Kukundapala Bhavani, 26, a native of Bhongir married Kiran, a Junior Assistant at the District Police Office, seven months ago and was living in Venkateshwara Colony in Tallagadda. She was in her fourth month of pregnancy, the town police said.

According to a complaint lodged by the victim’s father Shankar, Bhavani was being harassed for more than three months now, for an additional dowry. The parents also claimed that they had already paid around ₹ 45 lakh as dowry at the time of marriage.

The police shifted the victim to the Area Hospital for post-mortem after a brief protest by the relatives at the town’s police station to lodge the complaint. It is learnt that the examining doctors have sought the assistance of forensic officials to complete the report.

Deputy Superintendent of Poice Mr. Nageshwar Rao has taken up the investigation of the case.
