Made of earthen pot with a small fan attached to it, this cooler can give top-end cooler makers a run for their money. It’s no surprise that it has become popular not just in the district, but in many places in the State.

The idea that was given a shape by Jogu Pramode of Shetpally in Morthad mandal has been well-received by the consumers given the high demand for the cooler made by him.

In just 15 days of being introduced to the market, the earthen pot-cooler has become people’s favourite in Armoor, Nirmal, Metpally, Hyderabad and Manchiryal. This apart, orders for the same have been placed from Chennai, Odisha, Maharashtra and Karnataka. “As transportation is difficult, I cannot send them to other States as of now,” said Mr. Pramode.

“So far, I have sold about 200 coolers and the demand seems to rise every day. Recently, I received an order for 100 coolers from Hyderabad. I can make 12 to 15 coolers a day and I use the locally-made earthen pots. The cost of making a cooler is around ₹1,350 and I sell a piece at ₹1,500,” he said.

Being an AC and refrigerator mechanic, Mr. Pramode, after completing his course in ITI, worked in Mumbai for two years. He then went to Dubai and worked there as a mechanic for 12 long years. When he came back to Nizamabad two years ago, he longed to develop something that would be cost-effective, and that craving led him to develop the earthen pot-cooler.

Explaining the process, Mr. Pramode said he makes a hole in the pot called ranjan in the local parlance and fixes a pipe. A small fan is attached on top of it while hay is filled in the pot. When the water run through the hay, it produces cool air. “This cooler is enough for one person. In future, I intend to make a cooler big enough to keep an entire room cool,” he said.

Chetan, a consumer, said, “Pot cooler is cost-effective and comfortable. As power consumption is less, it can be used by anyone.”
