Tense situation continues to prevail in interior areas of Bhadrachalam Agency bordering the Maoist strongholds of neighbouring Chhattisgarh as the rebels are all set to observe the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) week from December 2 to 8.
The killing of a tribal man by suspected Maoists by branding him as “police informer” at Pedamidisileru village in Charla mandal on Sunday heightened fears of renewed Maoist violence in the remote areas close to the volatile inter-State border.
In an effort to prevent untoward incidents during the Maoists’ PLGA week, the police have intensified vigil and combing operations in the forest fringe areas in Dummugudem and Charla mandals, which share a porous border with the strife-ridden areas of Chhattisgarh.
The police in coordination with the CRPF personnel have stepped up area domination operations and vehicle checking drive along the routes leading to the traditional Maoist citadels in Chhattisgarh’s south Bastar division.
