Police give new lease of life to tank

They adopt it under the ‘Mission Kakatiya’ programme

The residents of Nashakal village in this mandal have been facing tough time by walking on the one km-long bund of the village tank, which is narrow and full of thorny bushes to reach their homes. But, in a few days, their hardship will be over.

Thanks to the district police, the bund will be widened and cleared of bushes.

Celebrations

Along with Sarpanch S. Babu, the entire village has been celebrating the moment when the District Police Department took the initiative of adopting the village tank.

“The bund became narrow and full of thorny bushes. May be no one will be willing to take up the work involving huge funds. Luckily, the district police adopted this village tank and we are very happy,” S. Babu told The Hindu .

Inspection of works

Meanwhile, Kazipet Deputy Superintendent of Police B. Janardhan visited the Nashkal village tank to oversee the ongoing ‘Mission Kakatiya’ works after a fortnight when DIG B. Malla Reddy and SP A.K. Jha launched the works.

Also, villagers came forward to help the police personnel in digging up the tank.

Irrigation Department Assistant Engineer B. Sai Sirisha said that they were digging up three feet deep pit. However, the villagers who were very excited with the police involvement dug up more mud than required for strengthening the bund.

“Unlike in other villages, I fouud people voluntarily involved in the efforts here because and took it up as a prestigious work,” she pointed out.

Area of tank

The Nashkal village tank is spread in 25 acres and has 50 acres of ayacut under it.

A villager S. Raju Yadav said that they expect the tank to hold more water this time and more fields are covered under its ayacut. The works cost over Rs.15 lakh.

The villagers are looking forward to celebrate the completion of work which is expected to be over in next four days.
