Police extend olive branch to top Maoists

Posters come up in Karimnagar urging them to give up armed struggle and join the mainstream

The Karimnagar district police released posters appealing to naxalites, including the top cadres and Maoist Chief Muppala Laxman Rao alias Ganapati, to surrender and join the mainstream of society.

Incidentally, Karimnagar district has a total of 19 underground Maoists including eight central committee members of the party. Maoists’ supremo Ganapati, central committee members Mallojula Venugopal Rao alias Prahlad, Pulluri Prasad Rao alias Chandranna, Tippari Tirupati alias Sanjeev, Kadari Satyanarayana Reddy alias Sadhu and Malla Raji Reddy alias Sathenna carry a reward of Rs. 25 lakh each on their heads.

Similarly, two other central committee members Balmuri Narayana Rao alias Venkanna and Kaatha Ramachandra Reddy alias Vijay, all hailing from Karimnagar district, carry a reward of Rs. 20 lakh each on their head.

Similarly, the police poster also depicts the pictures of 11 other naxalites of various dalams and Karimnagar, Khammam and Warangal (KKW) region and Chhattisgarh State with reward ranging from Rs. 4 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh on their heads.

The posters reading “Vana jeevitam veedandi, jana jeevanamlo kalavandi ” (Shun jungle life and join mainstream of society) have sprang up in various parts of the district, attracting the attention of passersby with the display of photos of all important naxalite leaders of the district. The police had also printed the phone numbers on the posters urging the people to alert the police and help them in nabbing the naxalites. Superintendent of Police D. Joel Davis has appealed to the Maoists to surrender and get rehabilitated suitably by the government.

He said that the reward amount would be handed over to the surrendered naxalites and also called upon their relatives and others to ensure their surrender.
