Embracing a pragmatic approach to expand green cover in the district, the district police have adopted geo-tagging technology to ensure healthy growth of saplings being planted as part of the ongoing Haritha Haram, the State government’s green drive, across the district.
The district police wing’s core team, comprising technical staff, has drawn up an action plan under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Shahnawaz Qasim to harness the geo-tagging technology optimally to achieve greater survivability of saplings, police sources said.
The technology-aided initiative is aimed at keeping track of the condition of plants and nurturing them with utmost care.
The district police have so far planted 7.10 lakh saplings at various places — district police headquarters, offices of the DSPs and Circle Inspectors of Police, educational institutes, adopted villages, and open spaces across the district.
The police department has mooted an ambitious plan to plant a variety of saplings on the premises of each police station and also enter the details of the saplings in the General Diary (GD) of the respective police stations.
Meanwhile, Mr. Qasim on Monday planted saplings at various places, including police staff quarters, St. Mary’s School, and kabristan (burial grounds) at Indiranagar in the town.
