The famous temple town of Bhadrachalam, which is grappling with accommodation shortage, could soon have additional facilities to provide better accommodation and improved amenities to pilgrims.

In an initiative, which is set to augment the accommodation facilities in Bhadrachalam, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has allocated ₹4.75 crore for construction of a spacious pilgrims’ amenities centre here.

The proposed two-storey complex will have a 28-room choultry and other modern amenities, sources said.

The ambitious plans earlier mooted by the authorities of Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple in Bhadrachalam to build new cottages on the temple land in and around the temple town came to a grinding halt in the aftermath of the transfer of the entire Bhadrachalam mandal, barring the revenue village of Bhadrachalam encompassing the temple, to Andhra Pradesh, post-bifurcation, in 2014.

There are around four choultries comprising 140 rooms and 27 cottages under the control of the temple administration at present in Bhadrachalam.

The TTD’s move to construct the pilgrims’ amenities centre in Bhadrachalam assumes significance in the backdrop of the limited accommodation facilities here.

Sattupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, who is a member of the TTD trust board, played an instrumental role in prevailing upon the TTD trust board to sanction the centre to Bhadrachalam.

Minister for Roads and Buildings T. Nageswara Rao on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the proposed new facility near Tanisha Kalyana Mantapam in Bhadrachalam. Mr. Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, Bhadrachalam MLA Sunnam Rajaiah, Joint Collector Ramkishan, Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple executive officer Ramesh Babu, TTD executive engineers, were among those present.
