Students of the six-year Pharm.D course staged a demonstration here on Tuesday demanding creation of clinical pharmacist cadre posts in State-run hospitals.
The rally was organised to mark the sixth day of the relay fast by members of the Pharm.D Students’ Welfare Association in pursuit of their demand.
Scores of Pharm.D students, some with their faces painted and carrying ‘bathukammas’, took part in the rally from Pavilion grounds to the Dharna Chowk.
Representatives of various political parties as well as student organisations extended support to the ongoing relay fast by the Pharm.D students.
The Association leaders said the Pharm.D graduates had the qualification and training to render professional services as clinical pharmacists in the drug information and patient counselling wings in both government and private hospitals.
Highlighting the role of clinical pharmacists in promoting the practice of “evidence-based medicine” and preventing “adverse drug reactions” as well as “medication errors”, they urged the State government to create clinical pharmacist cadre posts in the State-run hospitals to strengthen the public health delivery system.
