People’s representatives did not support ‘Badi Bata’, says STU

‘Teachers instrumental in the increase of enrolment in government schools’

July 03, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - KARIMNAGAR:

State Teachers Union (STU) Telangana State president B. Bhujanga Rao has said that they will send their children to government schools provided that all the elected representatives and other government employees also do so.

Reacting to a query at a press conference here on Saturday about the parents losing confidence in quality teaching in government schools as the teachers were sending their wards to the private schools, the STU president said “we are ready to send our children to government schools only if the government introduces common schools and ensures that the government employees, elected representatives and private sector employees also join their wards in government schools”.

Govt. faulted

Finding fault with the Government for introducing CCTV cameras in the government schools and conduct of SSC examination under the surveillance of cameras, he said that the student community was scared after seeing cameras and their performance was declining. When it was bought to his notice that all the private schools were having CCTV camera surveillance, he replied in the negative.

Basic amenities

Claiming that there were more than 1.6 lakh new enrolments of students into various government schools during current academic year following the ‘Badi Bata’ programme launched by the teaching community, he attributed the credit to only teachers for increase of enrolment and added that public representatives and others had not supported their cause.

He demanded that the Government take all measures to provide basic amenities such as toilets, drinking water, compound wall, adequate furniture and recruitment of teachers and non-teaching staff for proper maintenance of schools.

Unified service rules

Expressing concern over vacant Deputy DEO and MEO posts in the State, he demanded that the Government take up unified service rules and provide promotions to the teachers. He ridiculed the appointment of vidya volunteers instead of taking up recruitment of teachers through the DSC.

He also demanded that the Government start pre-primary schools to increase enrolment in the schools.

He also extended solidarity to the Telangana judicial employees and judges’ agitation demanding formation of separate high court. The STU district president Katkam Ramesh, general secretary Ravindra Chary, district leaders N. Vidyasagar, S. Prabhakar Rao and others were also present.
