Swadhar, a rehabilitation centre for destitute women maintained by Prakruthi voluntary organisation, performed marriages of three girls who were ostracised by their parents in Karimnagar town on Thursday.
The three girls, who had fallen in love when they were minors, had married against the wishes of their parents. Following a police case, the grooms were arrested and girls were sent to Swadhar rehabilitation centre as their parents refused to take them in.
As the girls were minors, the organisation kept them in their custody, imparted them job-oriented skills and offered them various courses. As they attained eighteen years of age, Swadhar performed their marriages in the presence of local legislator Gangula Kamalakar, MLC T. Santosh Kumar, former legislator Bomma Venkateshwar, CCS Inspector Madhavi, TNGOs leaders M.A. Hameed, N. Narasimha Swamy, S. Rajaiah Goud and other government officials, who blessed the newly-wed couples.
The rehabilitation centre turned a marriage hall with the conduct of three marriages at a time. The married couple – M. Bhagyalaxmi and Anjaneyulu of Indurthi village in Chigurumamidi mandal, B. Kamala and Prem Kumar of Anupuram village in Vemulawada mandal and P. Anusha and V. Arun of Malyala village in Chandurthi mandal – were more than happy to arrive at a stage where they could face new challenges.
On the occasion, Prakruthi voluntary organisation president Bomma Jayashree said that Swadhar had become a maternal house for the girls and it would take care of the newly-wed couples.
