One dead, 30 injured as bus plunges into Godavri at Bhadrachalam

One person died and 30 others were grievously injured when an RTC bus (Ramabanam service) carrying passengers from Sarapaka to Bhadrachalam fell off the bridge across the Godavari in the temple town on Thursday afternoon.

According to sources, the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle while crossing the more than five decade old bridge in the afternoon. The bus plunged into the river killing a woman passenger on the spot and injuring all the occupants of the vehicle including its driver.

Some of the passengers sustained multiple injuries as they landed on the dried up bed of the river. The local fishermen rushed to the spot on noticing the bus plunging into the river with a deafening noise.

The injured passengers were rushed to the Government Area Hospital. Bhadrachalam police launched a massive rescue operation at the accident site.
