Officials come to aid of woman worker

Labour Department officials ask brick kiln owner to start a creche facility on the unit premises.

In response to a photograph published in these columns on Sunday, the Assistant Commissioner of the Labour Department, Khammam, Narasimha Rao, donated a cradle to the baby of a woman labourer of a brick kiln at Venkatagiri near the town.

It may be mentioned that a photograph captioned ‘A woman working at a brick kiln with her child in tow at Venkatagiri near Khammam’ was published in these columns in connection with Mother’s Day on Sunday.

Responding to the photograph, Deputy Labour Commissioner A. Gandhi has asked the officials concerned in Khammam to visit the brick kiln.

A team of officials led by Mr. Narasimha Rao visited the brick kiln and presented a cradle to the baby of an Odisha-based woman worker, whose photograph appeared in The Hindu . The officials advised the owner of the brick kiln to provide a crèche facility for the benefit of women workers of the unit.
