The 2,600-MW National Thermal Power Corporation plant at Ramagundam, which is also called as beckon lamp of South India, is lagging behind in power generation during current financial year.
Since inception of the plant, the NTPC Ramagundam had always surpassed the targeted generation and set milestones. This is the first time, the super thermal power station is struggling to achieve the target power generation.
Against the target of generating 20,025 million units of power during the fiscal 2016-17, the Ramagundam plant produced only 17,754.411 million units during the last 11 months at 85.19 plant load factor.
During the financial year 2015-16, the NTPC generated 20,250.096 million units of power at 88.67 plant load factor.
The sources said that the NTPC Ramagundam cannot achieve the target of generating remaining 2,271 million units of power before March 31 this year even if the Plant Load Factor comes to 100.
The decline in power generation has been attributed to the increase of use of renewable energy sources such as wind power and solar energy etc. in the neighbouring Tamil Nadu and other southern states.
NTPC Ramagundam Executive Director D.K. Dubey said that there was decline in power generation at Ramagundam power station due to decline in demand in the southern states because of supply of power from renewable sources.
However, he exuded confidence that the power generation would be increased at the pant as the demand would increase considerably during this season.
